[Female nurses in Spain. A history of limitations]

The author offers her personal vision as to the determining factors that define the functions and responsibilities within the health care system, especially in regards to aspects that are strongly identified as stereotypically female. An analysis is made as to how that identification is constructed and perpetuated, thus maintaining its marginalizing consequences. Strategies to fight against this treatment and ways to develop professionally are proposed.
