Abstract:
The United Kingdom has the unwelcome distinction of having the highest incidence of breast cancer in the world (World Health Organisation Statistics Annual 1985). Publication of the Forrest Report in 1986 (Forrest, 1986) stimulated the introduction of the Breast Screening Programme in 1988.
