Changing the culture of care for dying patients
1School of Health, University of Teesside, General Hospital Bishop Auckland, Co. Durham.
Abstract:
A care setting's culture will affect the roles played by nurses and people who are dying. The theory of malignant social psychology developed in dementia care can provide insight into the treatment of dying people. A major cultural shift is required if the needs of dying people are to be met and the balance of power altered.
