A sub-occlusal oblique transverse ridge: identification of a previously unreported tooth structure: the Rainey Ridge

This article identifies a previously unreported structure of mandibular molars, which can best be described as a sub-occlusal oblique transverse ridge. A predominant feature of this ridge as it underlies the anatomical landmark commonly referred to as the central "fossae," is its interconnection of the disto-lingual cusp and the mesio-buccal cusp. This ridge and other web structures found in enamel are important considerations when preparing teeth using ultra-conservative dentistry.
