Hemochromatosis associated with side-to-side portacaval shunt

Abstract:
A patient is described who developed the full-blown picture of hemochromatosis 24 months after a side-to-side portacaval shunt. No clear-cut explanation for this rapid development of hemochromatosis is apparent and a possible mechanism for this phenomenon is discussed.
