Area of Science:

  • Biomedical Engineering
  • Signal Processing
  • Cardiology

Background:

  • Fetal electrocardiogram (F-ECG) monitoring is crucial for assessing fetal well-being.
  • Extracting F-ECG from maternal ECG (M-ECG) is challenging due to signal overlap.
  • Existing methods often require multiple leads or complex processing.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To develop a robust and efficient method for F-ECG extraction from a single maternal abdominal ECG lead.
  • To identify and separate fetal and maternal ECG components using signal decomposition techniques.

Main Methods:

  • Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) applied to maternal abdominal ECG data.
  • Analysis of the singular value ratio (SVR) spectrum to identify signal components.
  • Selective separation of decomposed components to isolate F-ECG.

Related Experiment Videos

Main Results:

  • Successful identification and separation of F-ECG from M-ECG using a single lead.
  • The method demonstrates numerical robustness and computational efficiency.
  • Elimination of M-ECG components is achieved through SV-decomposed mode analysis.

Conclusions:

  • The proposed SVD-based method offers a unique and effective approach for non-invasive F-ECG extraction.
  • This technique simplifies F-ECG monitoring by requiring only one composite maternal ECG signal.
  • The method is suitable for clinical applications due to its efficiency and robustness.
