    Summary

Four patients with anti-Bg antibodies were identified, all possessing the B27 antigen on their HLA complex. Anti-Bg antibodies were confirmed using the Coombs technique, indicating a potential link between B27 and anti-Bg.

    Area of Science:

    • Immunology
    • Genetics
    • Hematology

    Context:

    • Investigating the serological profile of patients with specific antibody specificities.
    • Exploring the association between human leukocyte antigen (HLA) types and antibody presence.

    Purpose:

    • To identify and characterize anti-Bg hemagglutinins in patient sera.
    • To determine if the presence of the B27 antigen is associated with anti-Bg antibodies.

    Summary:

    • The study detected specific anti-Bg hemagglutinins in four patients.
    • All patients with anti-Bg antibodies were found to have the B27 antigen on their HLA complex.
    • The presence of anti-Bg antibodies was confirmed using the Coombs technique.

    Impact:

    • This finding suggests a potential correlation between the HLA-B27 antigen and the development of anti-Bg antibodies.
    • Further research may elucidate the immunological mechanisms underlying this association.
    • Clinical implications for transfusion medicine and autoimmune disease research warrant investigation.
