Pars plana vitrectomy in young patients frequently leads to cataract formation, particularly posterior subcapsular types. Intraocular gas use significantly increases cataract risk after this ocular surgery.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the incidence and characteristics of cataract formation in patients younger than 30 years old following pars plana vitrectomy.
  • To identify potential risk factors associated with post-vitrectomy cataract development in this age group.

  • Analysis of lens changes before and after vitrectomy in 49 patients (50 eyes) under 30 years old.
