Summary

Pressure constant ventilation (PCV) is a viable alternative to volume controlled intermittent positive pressure ventilation (IPPV) for chronic respiratory failure (CRF) in about 60% of patients. However, PCV may be inadequate for those with more severe CRF at baseline.
