Summary

Calcifications in axillary lymph nodes are rare in breast cancer cases. This study reports an unusual case where calcified metastatic cancer in lymph nodes appeared before the primary breast tumor was visible on mammography.

Background:

Intranodal calcifications are infrequently associated with breast cancer.
Previous reports detail malignant microcalcifications within axillary lymph nodes that correlate with mammographically detected primary breast tumors.

Observation:

This case presents a unique observation of calcified metastatic neoplasm within axillary lymph nodes.
The calcified metastatic disease in the lymph nodes preceded the identification of the intramammary lesion.

Findings:

The primary finding is the presence of calcified metastatic neoplasm in axillary lymph nodes.
This finding occurred prior to the visualization of the primary breast tumor on mammography, challenging typical presentations.

Implications:

This case highlights the potential for axillary lymph node calcifications to manifest before the primary breast tumor is evident.
It suggests a need to consider metastatic calcifications in lymph nodes as a potential early indicator of breast cancer, even in the absence of a detectable intramammary lesion.
