Psychological characteristics of juvenile alcohol and drug users

The purpose of this study was to investigate whether personality tests could differentiate between alcohol and drug users among juvenile offenders. The subjects were 108 Icelandic juvenile offenders who had been given conditional discharge. The Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ) and the Gough Socialisation Scale were administered to all subjects. The results indicate that the subjects who were classified as drug users or frequent alcohol users scored significantly lower than the other juveniles on the Gough Socialisation Scale and significantly higher on the EPQ lie scale.
