Chemotherapy: the more the better? Overview

Although numerous clinical trials of high-dose chemotherapy have been performed, few have demonstrated that such strategies are statistically significantly better than other forms of therapy. Application of dose-intensive and/or high-dose chemotherapy should be limited to drug-sensitive tumors, with primary end points being increased cure rates or prolonged survival. This should be confirmed by randomized clinical trials comparing dose-intensive and/or high-dose chemotherapy with standard therapeutic modalities.
