Summary

The P300 brainwave shows delayed, less defined responses in 90% of elderly males compared to younger individuals. This neurophysiological change suggests the P300 wave may indicate the aging process.

  • Young (mean age 22 years) and middle-aged (mean age 46 years) males served as control groups.
  • A Neuropack 4 model EMG machine was used for P300 estimation.

  • Elderly subjects exhibited significantly increased P300 latency.
  • P300 waves in the elderly group were poorly defined and non-reproducible in 90% of cases.
  • Young control subjects displayed normal P300 latency with well-defined, reproducible waves.
