Mandatory treatment: an examination of therapeutic jurisprudence

Mandatory treatment may have both positive and negative effects on patient outcomes. This chapter discusses empirical research and psychological theory bearing on the effects of coercion and choice and suggest ways that clinicians can apply the law more effectively in mandatory treatment contexts.
