Multiple aneurysmal bone cysts (ABCs) are a newly reported condition in horses. A Thoroughbred foal developed two ABCs, with the second occurring after initial treatment, leading to euthanasia.

Background:

Aneurysmal bone cysts (ABCs) are rare, benign, expansile bone lesions.
Their occurrence in horses, particularly multiple instances, has not been previously documented.

Observation:

A Thoroughbred foal presented with an aneurysmal bone cyst in the left 3rd metacarpal.
Surgical curettage provided partial resolution of the initial lesion.

Findings:

A second aneurysmal bone cyst developed in the left tibia of the same foal seven weeks postoperatively.
The development of multiple ABCs in this case is a novel observation in equine pathology.

Implications:

This case highlights the potential for recurrence or development of multiple aneurysmal bone cysts in horses.
