Summary

A chlorhexidine/thymol/fluoride varnish showed better long-term reduction of interdental mutans streptococci (MS) in schoolchildren than chlorhexidine/thymol varnish alone. The fluoride addition enhanced antibacterial varnish efficacy against cariogenic bacteria.
