[Costal chondrosarcoma. Apropos of 4 cases]

Background:

• Costal chondrosarcoma is a rare malignancy originating in the rib cartilage.
• Limited case reports exist for multiple costal chondrosarcoma occurrences within a short period.
• This study presents a series of four cases from a single institution.

Observation:

• Four patients with costal chondrosarcoma were treated at Nostra Señora de Aránzazu Hospital.
• Diagnosis involved clinical, radiological, and biopsy data.
• Tumors were histologically confirmed as chondrosarcoma, graded I and II.

Findings:

• All four patients underwent complete surgical resection.
• Chest wall defects required Marlex mesh repair in three cases.
• Three patients showed no recurrence during short-term follow-up (7-9 months).

Implications:

• Surgical resection is a viable primary treatment for costal chondrosarcoma.
• Effective chest wall reconstruction is crucial for functional outcomes.
• Further long-term studies are needed to confirm prognosis.
