Abstract:
1. Caregivers of young adults with mental illness struggle with burden, grief, client symptomatology and a negative impact on their family units. 2. Caregivers' coping methods include the assumption of facilitative attitudes, reliance on their faith use of support groups, and increasing their knowledge of mental illness. 3. The professional nurse can assist this population by assuming the roles of teacher, agent of referral, and spiritual caregiver.
