Background:

  • Inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) is a rare and aggressive form of breast malignancy.

Observation:

  • A 68-year-old male presented with rapid onset of left chest wall redness and swelling.
  • Physical examination revealed a hard left chest wall and axilla with upper limb edema.
  • Imaging demonstrated a 2 cm left breast mass with indistinct margins and pectoral muscle involvement.

Findings:

  • Needle biopsy confirmed invasive lobular carcinoma.
  • Systemic and intraarterial chemotherapy with 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) and Adriamycin (ADR) were administered.
  • The patient experienced disease progression, leading to death from carcinomatous pleurisy.

Implications:

  • This case underscores the aggressive nature of inflammatory breast cancer, even in male patients.
  • Treatment challenges and poor prognosis associated with advanced IBC are highlighted.
  • Further research into novel therapeutic strategies for aggressive breast cancers is warranted.
