Summary

This study compared in-vitro fertilization (IVF) outcomes after removing either the right or left ovary. Results show no significant difference in IVF success rates regardless of which ovary was removed.

Background:

  • Ovarian response to stimulation can vary.
  • Previous studies have not definitively compared IVF outcomes based on unilateral oophorectomy.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate if the side of oophorectomy (right vs. left) impacts in-vitro fertilization (IVF) outcomes.
  • To determine if gonadotrophin-releasing hormone and human menopausal gonadotrophins (GnRH/HMG) stimulation protocols show ovarian predilection.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective comparison of 56 IVF cycles post-left oophorectomy (Group A) versus 42 cycles post-right oophorectomy (Group B).
  • All patients had tubal disease as the sole cause of infertility.
  • Standard GnRH/HMG ovulation induction protocol used.
