Serum levels of transforming growth factor-beta 1 (TGF-beta 1) were decreased in children with Kawasaki disease (KD). This finding suggests a role for TGF-beta 1 in KD pathogenesis and its associated vasculitis.

- This dysregulation in TGF-beta 1 may contribute to the heightened TNF-alpha activity and subsequent vasculitis observed in KD.
