Abstract:
This article discusses the oncologist's perspective regarding communication with older cancer patients. Decision-making about the treatment of these patients should be influenced by physiologic and not chronologic age. Patient preferences are very important, and it is critical to consider quality rather than quantity of life. The oncologist should strive to understand the patient's preferences and ensure that they are addressed and reassessed throughout the course of treatment.
