    Background:

    • Assessing maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) is crucial for evaluating cardiorespiratory fitness.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To compare the VO2max response between a horizontal (H) and an inclined (I) treadmill protocol.
    • To determine if significant differences exist in physiological measures between the two protocols.
    • To evaluate the effectiveness of both protocols in eliciting maximal effort in well-trained individuals.

    Main Methods:

    • Twelve well-trained college males participated in the study.
    • Two incremental treadmill protocols were administered: a horizontal protocol and an inclined protocol simulating the Costill and Fox method.
    • Key physiological variables including VO2max, maximal heart rate (HR), respiratory rate, and ventilation (VEBTPS) were measured.

    • These findings support the use of either protocol for assessing maximal oxygen uptake in similar athletic individuals.
