G1-phase arrest is not a prerequisite for encystment in Physarum

Summary

Physarum polycephalum amoebae encyst without a lengthy G1 phase. Flow cytometry revealed cells predominantly remain in G2 phase during growth and encystment, challenging prior assumptions.
