Diabetic retinopathy is a leading cause of vision loss.
Sickle cell trait is common in certain populations.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate the impact of sickle cell trait on diabetic retinopathy in diabetic patients.

Assessed sickle cell trait presence.
Evaluated prevalence and severity of retinopathy.
Studied 124 diabetic individuals.

Main Results:

Sickle cell trait was present in some participants.
No adverse effect of sickle cell trait on diabetic retinopathy was observed.

Conclusions:

Sickle cell trait does not appear to influence the development or severity of diabetic retinopathy.
