  • To investigate the effect of mammalian steroid hormones on Candida albicans morphogenic transformation.

  • Utilized three clinical Candida albicans isolates.
  • Employed rabbit serum stripped of endogenous steroids, with specific hormones added back.
  • Assessed morphogenic transformation by microscopic counting of germinated yeast cells.

  • Stripped serum significantly reduced yeast germination compared to unstripped serum.
  • Low concentrations of beta estradiol strongly induced germ tube formation.
  • Estradiol's alpha isomer showed minimal morphogenic activity.
