Abstract:
The intra-ovarian interleukin-1 (IL-1) system may be an intermediary in the ovulatory process. More specifically, it is hypothesized that intra-ovarian IL-1 may constitute a mediator of gonadotrophins in the induction of ovulation. The current evidence for and against this possibility is reviewed.
