[Body temperature reaction in different morphological forms of kidney cancer]

A retrospective analysis was performed of case histories of 120 patients operated on for malignant tumours of the kidneys. 14 patients (11,6%) presented with fever in the range of 37.4-38.2 degrees C before the operation; in five cases it was the only sign of the disease. Fever was more common among those patients with renal-cell carcinoma, viz. clear-cell carcinoma, as evidenced by histological investigation and analysis of digital data (in 9 or 20,9 percent out of 43 patients). In mixed type renal-cell carcinoma and transitional cell carcinoma it occurred more seldom, with 2 (4,3%) cases out of 46 patients and 2 (15,4%) out of 13 respectively. Patients with glandular and spindle cell carcinomas and those with keratinizing type squamous cell carcinoma were fever-free.
