[A method for measuring prostate size in ultrasonic study]
Abstract:
Prostate size and volume estimations were made using transabdominal and transrectal ultrasound investigation in 88 patients. Scanning results were comparable. In transabdominal scanning, the thickness of the prostate should be calculated with coefficient 0.9. The range of the size and volume measurements is great. The experience says that for calculating volume and mass of the gland the most suitable formula is the following: half of the product of three gland sizes. Estimation of the adenoma size can be made with sufficient accuracy by subtraction 25 cm3 from the overall prostatic volume. When using two measurements in estimation of the prostate volume by the linear transducer, coefficient 1.3 is recommended.
