[A case of lung carcinoid]

Summary

A peripheral lung tumor initially suspected as benign was diagnosed as a typical carcinoid after growth and new tumor development. Surgical resection was performed, and carcinoid syndrome was not observed.

Background:

A 78-year-old female presented with an abnormal shadow in the left lung field.
This shadow was monitored for four years, initially presumed to be a benign tumor.

Observation:

Chest CT scans revealed tumor growth in the left lung and a new tumor in the right lung.
The patient did not exhibit carcinoid syndrome symptoms before the operation.

Findings:

Histopathological diagnosis confirmed a typical carcinoid tumor of the peripheral lung.
Surgical resection of the lung tumors was successfully performed.

Implications:

This case highlights the importance of vigilant follow-up for lung nodules, even those initially deemed benign.
