    Summary

    Multiple sclerosis frequently causes bladder and urethral dysfunction, primarily urgency and urge-incontinence. Gas-cystometry effectively assesses these detrusor and sphincter abnormalities linked to demyelination.

    Background:

    • Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a central nervous system autoimmune disease.
    • Urinary dysfunction is a common and often debilitating symptom in MS patients.

    • To investigate bladder and urethral function in multiple sclerosis patients.
    • To correlate urodynamic findings with neurological lesions.
    • To evaluate gas-cystometry as a diagnostic tool.

    • Studied 52 patients with multiple sclerosis.
    • Utilized gas-cystometry combined with sphincter electromyography.
    • Analyzed detrusor and sphincter function patterns.

    • 96% of patients exhibited abnormal detrusor or sphincter function.
    • Abnormal patterns suggested demyelinating lesions in corticospinal and reticulospinal tracts.
