Background:

  • A 68-year-old male presented with hemosputum, a concerning respiratory symptom.
  • Fiberoptic bronchoscopy was performed to investigate the cause.

Observation:

  • Bronchial polyps and a flat, foreign body-like substance were identified in the left main bronchus.
  • Biopsy of a polyp revealed inflammatory edema, hypervascularization, and inflammatory cell infiltration.

Findings:

  • Complete removal of the foreign body-like substance led to the disappearance of bronchial polyps within six weeks.
  • Histological examination did not confirm a typical foreign body, and the patient had no aspiration history.

Implications:

  • Bronchial polyps may develop as a reactive response to an unidentified extrinsic substance within the airway.
