[Anatomicopathological studies in retinoblastoma]

Summary

This study analyzed fourteen retinoblastoma cases, finding undifferentiated forms exhibit small cells with large nuclei and increased vascularity. Necrosis and melanin pigment were also observed in these aggressive retinoblastoma tumors.

Context:

Retinoblastoma is a pediatric eye cancer.
Histopathological analysis is crucial for understanding tumor behavior.

Purpose:

To describe the histopathological features of retinoblastoma.
To differentiate between undifferentiated and differentiated forms of retinoblastoma.

Summary:

Analysis of 14 retinoblastoma cases over 15 years revealed 12 undifferentiated and 2 differentiated forms.
Undifferentiated retinoblastoma showed small cells with high nucleus-to-cytoplasm ratio, irregular cellular density (perivascular), poor stroma, frequent necrosis, and increased vascularity.
Melanin pigment was observed in some cases without tumoral proliferation.
