Abstract:
Blood product transfusion therapy and its concomitant risks pose a special challenge for the oncology nurse. Knowledge of the pathophysiology of transfusion reactions, presenting symptoms, and treatment is necessary to safely monitor transfusions. Through meticulous nursing assessment, detection, and intervention, oncology nurses can prevent and/or minimize morbidity and mortality in patients receiving transfusion therapy.
