Area of Science:

  • Neurology
  • Urology

Context:

  • Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic neurological disease.
  • Urinary dysfunction is a common but often underreported complication in MS patients.

Purpose:

  • To evaluate the prevalence and characteristics of urinary symptoms in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS).
  • To correlate urinary symptoms with neurological compromise and functional disability.

Summary:

  • 81.8% of 77 MS patients reported urinary symptoms, most commonly mixed syndrome (52%).
  • Males with MS showed greater neurological involvement, functional disability, and higher urinary symptom incidence (91%).
  • Detrusor hyperreflexia was the most frequent urodynamic finding (60%).

Impact:
