Why lifelong learning?

The importance of professional development and what it means for nurses was described in a previous issue of International Nursing Review (March/April 1997). Below is a look at lifelong learning as reflected in continuing professional development for nurses, some international trends that influence health care, the international linkages taking place and the areas to be targeted for future professional development programmes.
