Summary

Neu differentiation factor (NDF) promotes survival and process extension in neonatal oligodendrocytes (OLG), but does not affect their proliferation. NDF isoforms protect immature OLG from apoptosis, aiding their development.

Background:

  • Neu differentiation factor (NDF), a neuregulin (NRG) family member, is implicated in glial cell development.
  • Limited data exists on NDF's role in the maturation of neonatal oligodendrocytes (OLG) into adult OLG.

  • To investigate the effects of NDF alpha and NDF beta isoforms on cultured neonatal rat OLG development.
