Focus on maternal behavior in infant intervention
The American Journal of Orthopsychiatry
|July 1, 1976
Abstract:
A six-stage maternal behavior progression is outlined, and its use as a schema for the assessment of parental behavior in parent-infant interaction is described. This approach focuses on parent-infant interaction, rather than the teaching of infant skills, as a basis for enhancing cognitive and affective development of the child. Use of the schema is illustrated in two cases from an intervention program for high-risk infants.
