Background:

  • Hypospadias is a congenital condition affecting the male urethra.
  • Urinary flow dynamics in children with hypospadias are not well-characterized.
  • Objective assessment of bladder outlet function is crucial in managing hypospadias.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate maximum urinary flow rate in patients with hypospadias.
  • To assess the impact of reconstructive surgery on urinary function.
  • To determine the utility of uroflowmetry in this patient population.

Main Methods:

  • Uroflowmetry was performed on 90 patients with hypospadias.
  • 140 uroflowmetry tests were conducted before and after surgical correction.
  • Maximum urinary flow rate for volume voided was analyzed.

Main Results:

  • Patients with hypospadias demonstrated lower maximum urinary flow rates compared to the general population (around the 5th percentile).
  • Pre-operative flow rates were consistently low.
