Progress in the development of new vaccines against tuberculosis

The last few years have seen a re-emergence of interest in developing new vaccines against tuberculosis. The present article briefly reviews progress in this field, which has seen the development of several highly innovative new approaches, including the use of plasmid DNA vector-based vaccines, recombinant and mutant BCG vaccines, and sub-unit vaccines.
