Area of Science:

  • Dermatology
  • Pathology
  • Plastic Surgery

Background:

  • Bioplastique is a novel microimplant used for cosmetic facial wrinkle correction.
  • Adverse reactions to cosmetic implants can occur, necessitating accurate diagnosis.

Observation:

  • Two patients developed foreign body granulomas following Bioplastique treatment for facial wrinkles.
  • Clinical presentation was minimal, posing diagnostic challenges.

Findings:

  • Histopathological examination revealed characteristic foreign body granulomas.
  • Key findings included cystic spaces and bizarrely outlined, glassy material consistent with Bioplastique microimplants.
  • The term 'Bioplastique-granuloma' was coined to describe this specific reaction.

Implications:

  • This highlights the importance of histopathology in diagnosing implant-related complications.
  • Understanding these granuloma characteristics aids in differentiating them from other facial lesions.
  • Accurate diagnosis is crucial for appropriate patient management and future implant selection.
