Summary

A rare common celiomesenteric trunk aneurysm was resected and sutured. This congenital vascular anomaly highlights the need for complete angiographic study in visceral artery aneurysms.

Area of Science:

  • Vascular Surgery
  • Embryology
  • Gastroenterology

Background:

  • Aneurysms of the celiac and superior mesenteric arteries are rare, comprising 10% of visceral artery aneurysms.
  • Aneurysms of the common celiomesenteric trunk are exceptionally rare, with only two prior reported cases.

Observation:

  • This report details a unique case of a saccular aneurysm arising from the bifurcation of a common celiomesenteric trunk.
  • The aneurysm was successfully treated with surgical resection and suture ligation of the neck.

Findings:

  • The anatomical variation suggests a congenital origin, likely due to an embryonic developmental defect.
  • Other potential causes for aneurysms in this region include atherosclerosis, infection, inflammation, and arterial dystrophy.

Implications:

  • Visceral artery aneurysms, particularly rare variants, necessitate thorough angiographic evaluation.
  • Surgical intervention is typically indicated for these lesions.
