[Development of theories in nursing science]

During its young history the science of nursing established a variety of different nursing theories in the United States. Due to the multitude of different concepts they have become difficult to overview. Of course, different classification efforts have been made. However, they did not succeed in eliminating confusion. In the following I will try to provide an orientation in the field of nursing theories by giving an overview over theory development and by discussing main concepts.
