Muscle sympathetic nerve activity during central, mixed and obstructive apnea: are there any differences?

Sympathetic nervous system activity increases during all apnea types in obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) patients. Central apneas showed higher muscle sympathetic nerve activity (MSNA) bursts compared to obstructive apneas.
