Area of Science:

  • Reproductive Health
  • Menopause Studies
  • Human Physiology

Background:

  • The climacterium, or menopause, is a natural biological transition.
  • Changes in hormone levels during this phase can impact various aspects of women's health.
  • Libido, or sexual desire, can be affected by these physiological changes.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To determine the incidence of decreased libido in women experiencing climacterium.
  • To identify factors associated with reduced libido during this life stage.

Main Methods:

  • A retrospective analysis was conducted.
  • Data from 421 women attending a Menopausal Center was reviewed.
  • Factors evaluated included age, dyspareunia, and socioeconomic status (housewife).

Main Results:

  • A high incidence of decreased libido was observed, affecting 46% of the participants.
  • Significant correlations were found between decreased libido and increased age.
  • Dyspareunia and housewife status were also identified as significant associated factors.

Conclusions:

  • Decreased libido is a common issue for women in the climacterium.
  • Age, dyspareunia, and housewife status are important factors to consider when addressing libido changes.
  • Further research may inform targeted interventions for improving sexual well-being in menopausal women.
