Summary

Image processing does not significantly impact diagnostic performance in chest X-rays. This study found no major differences in how radiologists interpret chest radiographs with or without image enhancement techniques.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess the influence of image processing on the diagnostic performance of radiologists reading chest radiographs.
  • To quantify changes in diagnostic decisions when image processing is applied.

Main Methods:

  • Six radiologists evaluated 168 chest images.
  • Images were reviewed both with and without image processing.
  • Diagnostic performance was analyzed using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis.
