Functional experiential hallucinosis after radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma

Abstract
Objective:
To consider the relation between functional experiential hallucinosis and brain injury induced by radiotherapy.
Methods:
Single case report.
Results:
A female patient presented with a four year history of functional experiential hallucinosis after two courses of radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Brain MRI showed hyperintense changes over the left temporal lobe.
Conclusion:
It is proposed that the hallucinosis was causally related to temporal lobe injury, a documented late complication of radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
