[Bone graft types and their use in selected orthopedic operations]

Twenty years of experience with all types of bone grafts is presented. The rules of safe graft use were established. Methods for obtaining valuable grafts are discussed and problems with free access to high tech product are pointed out. Statistically, an autologous bone graft heals in 100% even at the presence of infection, homologous frozen in 95%, lyophilized in 82% and longer than previous grafts. Massive cortical lyophilized grafts carry the risk of fracture, pseudoarthrosis, resorption or even being discharged. Since the demand as to the quality of the grafts increases the use of resected femoral heads decreases-59% in 1981-1990 and only 37% in years 1991-1996.
