Area of Science:

  • Dentistry
  • Oral Pathology
  • Surgical Oncology

Background:

  • Dental composite curing lights are widely used in restorative dentistry.
  • Potential iatrogenic soft-tissue injury from dental devices is a concern.
  • Localized lesions in the anterior maxillary region require thorough differential diagnosis.

Observation:

  • A case report details a patient presenting with an interproximal soft-tissue lesion in the anterior maxilla.
  • The lesion's etiology was suspected to be related to a composite curing light.
  • Clinical examination and histological analysis were performed.

Findings:

  • The histological diagnosis confirmed acute osteomyelitis.
  • The condition presented as a localized interproximal soft-tissue lesion.

Related Experiment Videos

  • No specific causative agent other than the suspected curing light was identified.
  • Implications:

    • This case highlights a rare potential complication of dental procedures.
    • Prompt diagnosis and appropriate treatment, including debridement, are crucial for managing acute osteomyelitis.
    • Awareness of such iatrogenic risks can inform clinical practice and patient safety protocols.
