[The consequences of drug use in adolescence]

This article is a overview of the multiple consequences of drug use, abuse and dependence among adolescents. Developmental issues on transition to adulthood are highlighted. The usual behavioural problems of drug addicts are explained on the basis of pathological defense mechanisms. A contemporary approach is made of the physical, psychological and social consequences of drug use.
